Vickers Recipient of Missouri Farmers Union Gary Wiggins Scholarships

STE. GENEVIEVE, MO (March 5, 2009) – Andy Vickers of El Dorado Springs, Mo. was awarded the Gary Wiggins Memorial Scholarship from Missouri Farmers Union (MFU) at their annual convention in Ste. Genevieve, Jan. 30. Vickers is a sophomore at the University of Missouri-Columbia, majoring in Animal Science with a minor in Agricultural Economics.

“Andy represents a bright future for Missouri agriculture,” said MFU President Russ Kremer. “Missouri Farmers Union is very proud to present him with the Gary Wiggins scholarship to assist him and other students in achieving their career goals.”

The scholarship is presented annually through an application process to a young person attending a 2 or 4 year college with plans to enter production agriculture and serve Missouri rural communities after graduation. The scholarship is presented in memory of Gary Wiggins, a former legislator and rural advocate.

“Gary Wiggins was a visionary, a leader and person deeply committed to the improvement of Missouri rural communities and family farms,” said MFU President, Russ Kremer. “We will be looking to the recipients of this scholarship to provide leadership in his community, production agriculture and to MFU.”
