Cooperative Development Center Offers Four Scholarships

CITY, Mo. (June 2, 2004) – With
a well-written essay, four college students have the chance to
be awarded $1,000
from the Missouri Farmers Union Family Farm Opportunity Center
to help pay for their schooling.
The cooperative development branch of Missouri Farmers Union is
offering four $1,000 scholarships to students enrolled in a two
or four year college during the 2004-2005 school year.
To apply for this scholarship, students must write an essay that
includes their need for scholarship money, their agriculture background,
leadership ability, academic achievements and career goals. The
deadline for submission is July 23, 2004. Essays must be postmarked
by this date to be eligible. Winners will be announced at the Missouri
Farmers Union booth in the Agriculture Building at the 2004 Missouri
State Fair August 12-22 in Sedalia.
Essays should include the desire of returning to a family farm
operation or in some way support family farm agriculture in a rural
community. Essays receiving consideration should also promote future
relationships between farmers, workers and consumers. Future goals
should focus on safe, sustainable production and processing practices.
The essay should be no longer than two pages, one inch margins,
single-spaced and 12 point Times New Roman font. In the top left
hand corner, include your name, mailing address, phone number and
the college you are attending.
